Works start on later living apartments in Hunstanton

Places for People is to extend its affordable living portfolio into Hunstanton, Norfolk with the development of 61 brand-new later living apartments for people aged 55 and over at Lavender View.

The company celebrated the start of the development alongside its partners on Wednesday 25 September with a traditional ‘turf cutting’ ceremony – held to mark the formal start of building works. Attendees included Cllr Thomas and Cllr Jamieson from Norfolk County Council, Paula Broadbent, Managing Director of Lovell Later Living, Deepesh Patel, Executive Director of Radis Community Care and Matthew Goakes, Area Director of Lovell Partnerships.

Places for People is collaborating with partners including Norfolk County Council – which has provided £2.9m capital funding to support the scheme as part of its Independent Living programme, Homes England – which has provided £5.7m in grant funding for the scheme, alongside developer Lovell Later Living, building contractor Lovell Partnerships and care provider Radis Community Care.

The development of this new community will deliver 61 one and two bedroom affordable-rent apartments by the end of summer 2026. The Radis Community Care team will provide on-site care and support 24/7 at Lavender View, enabling individuals to remain independent in a home of their choice.

It has aptly been named Lavender View after the rich and vibrant lavender fields established since 1932 and located three miles south of Hunstanton. 

The new community is being developed in the Hunstanton area of Norfolk and will bring much-needed later living accommodation to people over 55 living here. Tim Gardiner, Director of New Business at Places for People, said: “We are thrilled to celebrate this addition to our successful partnership with Lovell Later Living – a collaboration that will see a total of 279 homes for those aged 55 and over delivered by 2026. At Hunstanton, as with all of our later living communities, that means creating well-designed, sustainable, and safe homes for customers who wish to remain independent, while benefiting from care and support, when they need it.”

Lavender View will also offer residents an onsite café, an activity room for healthy and positive living, impressive communal areas including a main lounge and landscaped gardens, on-site hairdressing, a spa room, mobility scooter storage and on-site parking for residents and their visitors. Lavender View is due for completion in late summer 2026.

Cllr Alison Thomas, Norfolk County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: “I’m delighted to see work begin on Lavender View. We’ve been working hard to bring more Independent Living schemes to Norfolk, and thanks to the efforts of Places for People and our other partners we’ll soon be able to offer people a chance to have a home within a friendly community right here in Hunstanton. It’s a wonderful way for older residents to continue living independently but want to maintain a peace of mind by having care and support available on site.”

The apartments at Lavender View have been designed with modern living in mind – with one- and two-bedroom apartments on offer and each featuring a contemporary kitchen, appealing living space and stylish modern bathroom with walk-in shower. Each light and airy home will feature a private patio or balcony area.
