Socially responsible Passionate about making a positive contribution to our communities

Working responsibly with communities and respecting the environment

We passionately believe in being a socially responsible provider. Indeed, one of our values is ‘Social Responsibility’ and so it lies at the very core of our culture and way of conducting ourselves.

We are not only committed to making a positive contribution to the local communities where we provide services, but as a national service provider, we also take seriously our wider responsibilities to work in ethical, responsible and socially conscious ways that allow people to lead happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.

We pledge to:

Involve people

We will ensure that service users have as much control as possible in making their own choices about the support that they receive.

Our support will be very much built around the individual needs and aspirations of the people we care for so that they can be actively involved in their care and within their local community.

We will offer lots of opportunities for clients and their families to influence the ongoing development of our services through feedback, surveys, reviews and monitoring.

We will also ensure that we involve the wider community in our services too, for example by working with local schools to encourage opportunities for different generations to interact and learn and grow from each other.

Protect the environment

We will be proactive in protecting and sustaining our local, national and global environments for future generations.

We will ensure that environmental issues are kept at the forefront of everyone’s mind and we will work proactively to identify how we can prevent, reduce and mitigate our impact on the environment.

For example, our commitment to recruiting local people to local jobs wherever possible, helps to reduce the impact of car usage, and many of our visiting care branches offer walking rounds too.

In our offices, staff are encouraged to reduce their waste and recycle as much as possible, for example by keeping printing to a minimum and recycling what they can.

Recruit and train local people

We are committed to employing local staff and encouraging them to achieve their potential through investing in on-going training, support and development.

Through our internal training team and partnership with specialist agencies, we are able to develop our staff skills to meet local needs, supporting greater retention and job satisfaction.

We work with local commissioners and providers to promote care as a career not just a job, and support local and regional recruitment initiatives to help local people find work.

Support charities and volunteering

We will proudly support local and national charities and will support staff who wish to undertake charitable events by offering voluntary paid leave and by holding company charity events such as coffee mornings and raffles.

Many of our staff are keen to take the initiative when it comes to organising fundraising activities, and in contributing to schemes to help their local communities such as food banks.

As well as financial support we also promote awareness of the fantastic support that local and national charities offer. For example, we have pledged our support to the Alzheimer’s Society dementia-friendly communities program, offering dementia-friendly services as well as access to dementia friend sessions, promoting understanding and integration for those who live with dementia.

Work ethically

We will ensure that behaving honestly, with integrity and with respect to others flows through everything we do and extends to our commissioners, suppliers and other partners, as we all as our staff and service users.

We are committed to continued action in tackling inequality and promoting diversity.

Being an equal opportunities employer we work with local job centres, Back2Work providers and disability recruitment agencies to deliver a values-based recruitment approach, ensuring we employ the best person for job. All staff receive a level of pay which either exceeds National Minimum Wage or where possible is the National Living Wage or above.

We ensure that all our business practices and staff are ethical and morally responsible at all times, not being influenced by anti-competitive practices or bribery.

Support communities to thrive

We will help people to lead the lives that they choose, as independently as possible and as active members of their local communities.

We will encourage the community to be a part of our services where possible, creating thriving communities where generations live and work together.

We will build partnerships with local services; linking with volunteer, health and social community services for the mutual benefit of both the local economy and our staff and service users.
