Having access to the right accommodation is so important when it comes to supporting people with disabilities to live independently.

Supporting people to live independently within their own tenancies

“The right type of accommodation is so important when it comes to supporting people to live independently. Providing a safe environment that people can call home, creates the right foundation for us to help support them as they learn new skills, find employment, education or access their local communities, building up their confidence to lead the lives they choose. Radis looks forward to working with these partners on many more exciting developments to help improve the availability of high-quality housing and flexible support for some of the most vulnerable people in our society.”

However in some areas of the country suitable housing is lacking, which is why a key part of developing our Supported Living services has been our partnerships with developers and landlords to find sites where housing to meet these needs can be built or refurbished.

During 2020, Radis formed a strong partnership with Specialised Supported Housing (SSH), an experienced developer of high specification social housing; and Inclusion Housing, a national Registered Provider of social housing.

This partnership has so far yielded two bespoke developments for up to 19 people to call home. The first is a refurbished shared house and separate apartments for seven young people in Stoke on Trent.

Due to its mix of a shared house and individual apartments, it makes the perfect first home for individuals making their first steps from a family home or residential school/college into independent living with their own tenancy.

The second development in Worcestershire will be home to twelve people with profound and multiple learning disabilities.  It is a bespoke design and built to a very high specification to ensure that it’s tenants, all of whom have a high level of disability, can be supported to live safe, independent lives, with a 24/7 staff team based onsite.

Both properties were developed by SSH to a very high standard, with specification and design tailored to the individuals going to be living there.

“Collaborations in this sector are key to delivering positive outcomes for individuals. Each party has brought their expertise and core competencies to ensure high standards of accommodation, care and housing management to create a sustainable housing solution that the tenants can call home.”

“Inclusion are delighted to have commenced partnership working with Radis in Stoke and Worcestershire and look forward to future partnership working to deliver much needed specialist accommodation. Providing quality accommodation is central to Inclusion’s approach, however, equally important is our collaboration and partnership working with key partners such as Radis and SSH to enable delivery and quality services to our tenants.”
