Leading care provider, Radis Community Care expands geographically with its first extra care services in Plymouth.

Extra care housing services enable people – typically aged over 55 – to live independently,   with on-site staff available 24/7, supporting residents with a variety of needs.

Providing people with much more than a home, Radis Community Care has now taken over the care services at The Rise – which was built with the needs of people with sight loss in mind – and Runnymede Court.

The care provider continues to grow its geographic footprint, with these services extending its reach further south.

Emily Thomas, regional manager for Radis Community Care expressed her delight at this announcement:

“We’re thrilled to be able to support the people of Plymouth with the additions of extra care services, The Rise and Runnymede Court.

“The entire team at Radis are keen and passionate about supporting and caring for, as many people as possible up and down the country. We’re delighted to now be a trusted and reliable care provider in Plymouth and  hope to expand even further within the area.”

Extra care services often include communal facilities, including a lounge, salon, restaurant and well-maintained garden spaces for residents and their families to enjoy.

The Rise, however, is a specialist development with each apartment fitted to a high specification, for people aged over 55 with visual impairment.

Owned and managed by Housing 21, every aspect of this extra care service has been designed to minimise the difficulties that visual impairment can have on a person and their ability to live independently.

On-site facilities ensure that residents are able to access information in a way that suits their individual needs, including braille and audio.

Daily recorded messages are also accessible through the service’s internal phone system, providing updates on upcoming activities, food menus and even health and safety notices.

Sydnie Hickery, regional extra care manager at Housing 21 said: “We are pleased to be working alongside Radis Community Care at our Extra Care scheme in Plymouth.

“We look forward to working together to ensure that Housing 21’s residents receive high-quality care and support.”

Managed by Anchor, Runnymede Court is made up of 38 one and two bed apartments for the over 60s with plenty of amenities, including shared gardens and a guest room for visitors.

With a range of social activities and entertainment evenings as well as being situated nearby a large supermarket and pharmacy, Runnymede Court is a thriving community.

All applications for Runnymede Court are managed by local authority, Plymouth City Council.

Councillor Maria Lawson, Cabinet member for Health and Adult Social Care at Plymouth City Council said:

“We are pleased to work with Radis to help provide more extra care services for people in our city. We are committed to investing in our adult social care services and delivering the best community offer for those who would benefit from the service.”

Both services have become a true pillar of their communities, providing residents, their families and the local community with a social hub, enabling people to come together whilst ensuring the specialist care they require is on hand 24/7.
