Barley Court

Located in Costessey, on the outskirts of Norwich, Barley Court is a welcoming extra care service offering a collection of one and two-bedroom apartments for people aged 55 and over, designed to support independent living within a safe and friendly community. The service has been thoughtfully designed to help residents maintain their independence while providing access to care and support when needed.

Residents benefit from a range of on-site facilities, including a communal lounge and dining room, conservatory, hobby room and beautifully maintained gardens. There is also a community centre, hairdressing salon and bar area, creating comfortable spaces for residents to relax, socialise and enjoy a variety of activities. Breakfast and lunch are available each day.

A variety of social opportunities and resident-led activities take place regularly, helping residents to stay active and connected within the community. Barley Court is conveniently located close to local amenities, including shops, healthcare services and public transport links.

For those residents who need support, our care team strive to help them to retain as much independence as possible, for as long as possible. Care is tailored to each individual and delivered within the comfort of their own apartment, ranging from a little help with daily tasks to more regular support throughout the day and night.

Working in close partnership with Saffron Housing Trust, we ensure high-quality, seamless independent living for the residents of this scheme.

Krista Plowman

SERVICE MANAGER AT BARLEY HOUSE

‘With over 35 years of experience in the care sector, I began my career with Norfolk County Council as a trainee before progressing through roles including Care Assistant, Senior Carer, Care Coordinator and Deputy Manager. I later moved into Housing with Care and have been the Registered Care Manager at Barley Court since 2017.

I am passionate about supporting people to live as independently as possible and ensuring Barley Court is a welcoming community. I am incredibly proud of the people who live and work at Barley Court and the strong, supportive team we have built together.

Our close-knit team works hard to support one another and the people we support, creating a relaxed environment where familiar faces are always on hand.’

“Before I moved in we talked about what I wanted. There was a schedule drawn up about when I needed help and what with.”

“I am one of the original tenants, from when Wellwood House opened in 2002. I call Wellwood House my home. I am now 97 years old and am still able to do what I can for myself, which is thanks to the design of the building and the care and support I receive from the staff. I have got to know them all well over the years and I am very thankful that they have kept me healthy and motivated.”

“The staff support me with what I can't quite manage. They all know how independent I am and don't try to take this away from me.”

“I moved into Ty George Lansbury 6 years ago following discharge from hospital. I couldn’t return to my house, so coming to Ty George was peace of mind for myself and for my family. It meant that I could live independently but still have the support from the 24 hr lifeline service and care team just in case I have any difficulties at all. It’s also good to know there is always the support from the on-site Radis care workers too.”

“I feel safe. There are no care staff that walk through my flat door that I am not pleased to see. Staff are all different but have the same care values at heart. Very kind, caring and reassuring. I am very impressed with this place. I would like to end my days here at Woodland Court.”
